In Book 2, Play Ball, Emma’s brother, Jake, is excited to resume his successful pitching position from last year. Jake finds that with this new season, there is also a new coach who just happens to have a son that steps into that very position.

Jake is hopeful that he will get to pitch after successful pitching practices, but his hopes come crashing down. In fact, things get so bad that Jake even considers quitting baseball altogether. He is no match for favoritism.

Emma urges Jake to seek counsel from Tobias. He takes her advice and with some apprehension, he ventures to the woods. At first, Jake doesn’t know what to make of Tobias, but he soon realizes his mystical powers. Tobias sheds new light on Jake’s situation, and he soon comes to accept his circumstance.
